Glad to see you're back! It's time to reflect on my first anime convention experience as a whole. J1Con is much smaller than most cons out there but I had fun because it was like the last big social occasion for me before the summer ended. Luis and I hosted our good friend Lysee [Lysee6 on Twitch] and we all spent the weekend in our city. We met Lysee through Twitch and have known him for over a year now. It was a blast having him stay with us because we really enjoy the company. Both of us are always working during different hours so it makes it difficult for us to plan anything with others. It was a nice break from everything and I still ended up streaming every day but the streams were more casual and laid back. Lysee brought Miku on the PS4 and I had a serious practice session. It's so hard trying to transition from 3DS to a controller where the buttons are FLIPPED. We took Lysee to some of our favorite places around the city! Ikea, ACMoore, Chinatown, and Gamestop. Don't judge us alright! Ikea has the best food and it's crazy affordable. If you hang out with us we will make sure you are comfortable and that you save money. We are a simple couple and we really do not need luxurious things to be happy. I've realized that some of my most memorable moments in life are not the ones where I was out at some fancy restaurant but just at home spending time with friends. I have learned to truly appreciate the time spent with the people I care about because once you get older schedules start to clash. Everyone has their own thing going on and it's almost impossible to meet up. Conventions bring internet friends together. This weekend was special to me and although I have plenty complaints about J1Con it was worth to have a close friend come to visit! It was not pricey at all but I think I'm going to save up to go to a better anime convention later down the line.
I can't say that this is my first time cosplaying because I went all out one year for Halloween with a Harley Quinn costume. I made her big hammer and everything! What's different this time is that didn't attend a convention or huge event so I was a bit nervous about dressing up. I really wanted to do an Animal Crossing cosplay and thought that Reese and Cyrus would be fun to attempt with Luis. Lysee was supposed to wear a red new leaf that I painted for him but it didn't dry in time. He ended up wearing a Resetti shirt and we didn't notice until the last day that we never took a proper group photo.

This was the first booth I saw when I walked into the show floor! It reminded me of back when I was in China shopping at the underground malls and old alleys. I have aways been so intrigued by Japanese fashion and this was like a small boutique! I really wanted to buy one of the jumpers but they were all so expensive! the navy ruffled one I asked for was $85.
This was actually not a bad deal at all! $20 for a school girl uniform set. It comes with both the top and skirt ahhh I really regret not picking one out. I'm looking at this picture now and thinking how could I have missed the black and white one with the ribbon on the sleeves!? Maybe that wasn't part of the deal but I still should of checked to see. They raised the price for these to $25 for the second day.
Some quirky backpacks and purses they had! I was eyeing the strawberry shoulder bag but I didn't like the material. Most were priced at $25 which is surprising because they are usually $30-40 everywhere else you go! Very pretty but I don't need anymore. I've been doing a good job at saving money and not buying excess things.
Fashionable surgical masks? Yes please!
Overview of this one lady's booth! She was so so nice! I asked her if I could take a picture of her booth and she told me yes of course but please don't include me in it. She had a bowl of soup in her hand and was gesturing that she did not look good. I giggled and took pictures of the front where she had most of the stuffed animals. This is where I bought my Doreamon plush! See pictures further down!
So here's the thing and I'm going to be honest. I love convention merchandise but the prices can be pretty outrageous sometimes. I know I can't do anything about it but I just like complaining about small things LOL. I see my main gal Hello Kitty in the pile but I really don't want to pay $3 for some whale stickers. I'm probably just being really extra and cheap so don't mind me. I'm just saying that there are some things you should pass on when at a convention. You don't need things that you can get for so much less somewhere else.
A whole section just for alpacas!
MUSTACHE YOU A QUESTION GENTLEMAN SUMIKKO GURASHI PLUSHIE!!! I still don't own one of these characters and I am so sad. $40 is kind of ridiculous so all I did was take pictures. The cat has a star crown and looks like a fairy princess ow my heart.
I saw so many beautiful Miku figures! I AM LOVING THE TWO ON THE RIGHT OUTFITS LOOK LIKE THEY ARE FROM WORLD IS MINE AND ROMEO AND CINDERELLA SONG MAYBE???
This booth caught my attention because of all the handmade jewelry! I love DIY projects and these fabric hair bow clips are adorable! I saw some familiar characters from Totoro, Pokemon, and Sailor Moon.
Long pendant necklaces of all shapes and sizes! See any prints you like?
The macaron necklaces are beautiful. I don't ever wear accessories so I could only window shop. Trust me, it was extremely difficult to hold back from buying everything on this table.
Featured artist booth near the front!
Probably on my list of top 10 most remarkable artwork. My favorite thing in the whole wide world is small critters/animals/little buddies/pals/companions in games and anime. Happy from Fairy Tail is flying around with cherries! All the characters are so fascinated with the fruit surrounding them. This piece is very colorful and vibrant. Everything is glistening!
These two ladies were lovely! They shared a booth together and their artwork is fantastic so please go follow both of them on social media!
I could not leave without these bunny stickers! The artist named them Lenna and Reina. They are twin sisters with different personalities. The one chewing on the riceball is a bit more mischievous while the other one is sweet and loving.
Small Sanrio charms! I am also completely obsessed with the Gudetama flying saucer. Oh my goodness he is legit a UFO.
Some mirrors that we found in Lysee's grab bags! I didn't buy any but I watched him open up a few on stream with you guys! Blobby Totoros and Pikachus hehe stinking cute.
A pastel dream! This table's set up was gorgeous so I had to take a picture. There was a rack full of shirts with their art on it as well!
I have a weakness for small plushies, pouches, and keychains. Look at this madness I mean conventions are just dangerous.
I present to you my grab bag photo series! I made it a mission to go around the convention and take pictures of (almost) all the different mystery bags that were offered by different vendors. I am way too picky so buying something like this is a risk for me but I had fun seeing what Lysee got out of them!
Ta da! I picked him up and never put him down. I just kept hugging him because I have never seen such a high quality Doraemon plushie before. When you see him in stores he is always so derpy looking because the eyes are usually just felt pieces glued on. I've seen plushies where it's just not put together very well but I am impressed by how this one is made.
Doesn't he look so happy? Despite his very sad story he is always so cheerful. Doraemon has been one of my favorite characters since I was little. I own the Chinese DVDs of the show and he reminds me of my childhood. I treasure the things that I loved back when I was young.
I think these two are going on the front cover of my bullet journal! I really adore the star and heart tails. If you want a set for yourself or want to check out what else she has in her store:
SHE HAS STATIONARY OF THESE BUNNIES AND I AM SO TEMPTED TO PURCHASE! ^_^
I was so mesmerized by the bunny stickers I didn't even see these on the table at first. I was looking at some artwork that was hanging above and Lysee had to point it out to me. "BUT DID YOU SEE THIS???" and I literally started freaking out. Animal Crossing Washi Tape. AFTER I MADE A HUGE STATEMENT ABOUT HOW I WOULD NEVER BUY WASHI TAPE EVER AGAIN. I caved. You can't buy something like this wherever so I decided to buy both rolls.
Some mirrors found in Lysee's grab bag!
Lysee let me keep all the bags! I found these bear bags on Wish and decided to order a few since they were real cheap. I want to use them to give out goodie bags to my viewers during SugarFam Dinner Meet Up @ TwitchCon!
The "favorite" store in Chinatown that I always mention is not the Sanrio store by the way. Everything in the store is officially licensed but I'll choose bootleg over that any day LOLOL. I walked to the back of the store where they have a shelf of clearance stuff and found a magical EMPTY HELLO KITTY box.
I am well aware of my sticker situation. I have way too many but I needed better storage and thought this box was PERFECT. Much easier to look through now!
Whenever I go back to my favorite store I feel like I always see something new! They restocked the pens and these are SO nice. Before they only had flimsy mechanical pencils and pens that had no ink. They really stepped up their game. Line Play friends with CRAZY GOOD INK. The frog looks like Tad from Animal Crossing!
If you have the phone app LINE PLAY please please add me! Sugarcoatedkiss ♡
I wanted a new place to store my special promotional amiibo cards so I went on ebay and found this amiibo festival themed mini card album. It's legit the size of an amiibo card! With this I ordered the last card I needed for my collection.
HERE SHE IS!!! I own the K.K. Slider card obtained from the Pikopuri magazine I bought from PlayAsia. I'm almost positive you can find it on ebay still and it's not too expensive! Our beloved secretary Isabelle however was a PRETTY PENNY. She was $50. I really did not want to spend SO MUCH money on ONE card but every other listing was $100 and up. Want to buy it with the magazine? Forget it. The price has been steady for over a year so I thought I should just go for it because it's literally the only card I need to have a COMPLETE Animal Crossing card collection. I was so excited to see that it is still in MINT condition with the plastic!!!
Huge stack of cards sent from Gutterstars! She is so generous and truly an angel. I love my community and how they continue to feed the Animal Crossing addiction.
Thanks for reading this post! I didn't get much but I am more than satisfied with my purchases from the convention. I didn't like how unorganized the event was because the schedule and rules for certain things kept changing. It was all so messy because Luis wanted to participate in both Melee and Smash 4 tournaments. He got into Melee for the first day but when we went back for Smash 4 he was told that the list had capped at 30 people. It didn't say anything about a limit on the website and some players were allowed to join late which didn't really make sense. I knew that Luis wanted to play Smash 4 more than anything so it was kind of disappointing. I wanted to enter the cosplay contest just to show our cute outfits but sign ups were never announced. We arrived just to hear one of the staff members say that all entries had been taken. What made it even more strange is that the cosplay contest was scheduled to start at 5PM but it took place at 12PM. Wahhhh I just didn't understand what was going on half the time. I don't mean to end it on a negative note but it's the reality of what happened. We left to go explore the city so that definitely made up for it! I know it must be hard to coordinate an event like this so I understand that things can become hard to manage. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed all the pictures and the stuff I ended up leaving with! I would really appreciate it if some of you could leave a comment with your thoughts on anime conventions. Have you ever been to one? Did you cosplay? Did you travel? I want to hear from you!
